Henry Chung

Henry Chung was called to the bar in 2022 following successful completion of his pupillage with Mr. John Reading SC, Mr. Giles Surman, Mr. Lawrence Cheung, Dr. David Fong and Mr. Joe Chan. 

Henry is building a broad civil and matrimonial practice with an emphasis upon commercial and company litigation, probate and property law, defamation and matrimonial finance. On the criminal side, Henry has experience in both white-collar and organised crime.

Examples of Henry’s recent work include: - 

  • Advising an international data analytics company regarding cross-jurisdictional gambling and the extraterritorial elements of the Gambling Ordinance, Cap. 148 (led by Mr. John Reading SC) 
  • Advising on questions of privilege and disclosure involving allegations of fraud (led by Mr. Benson Tsoi)
  • Advising a local construction and engineering company on questions involving the law of easement, abatement and the doctrine of frustration (as sole counsel) 
  • Various appearances in the District Court and the High Court (as sole advocate and as led-junior) 

Prior to joining the Bar, Henry obtained his MA Law degree at University of Law and PCLL at City University of Hong Kong (Dean’s List) after completing his BScs (Hons) Biology with Deans Award for Academic Excellence Scholarship at University of Bath.

Jonathan Chan Yik Hong

Jonathan is a Charles Ching Scholar.

Jonathan joined Chambers in 2022 after completing his pupillage with Mr Kumar Ramanathan SC, Mr Giles Surman, Mr Hew Yang-Wahn, Mr Andrew Raffell and Mr Robin Egerton. He had previously served as marshal to the Hon Chu JA (now VP), the Hon Zervos JA and HHJ A Tse Ching (sitting as Family Court Judge).

Jonathan is developing a broad civil and criminal practice with a particular focus on family law. Jonathan has worked on a wide range of matrimonial finance and children matters, including but not limited to GMO applications, relocation applications, CDRs and FDRs (court, private and mediator-assisted), MPS and litigation funding applications, DCRVO applications, application for Hadkinson Order and costs.

In addition to family practice, Jonathan has exposure in chancery and civil matters involving trusts, land, wills and probate, and applications under the Mental Health Ordinance.

Jonathan is also well versed in criminal law with experience in defending offences against the person, sexual offences, immigration offences, white-collar crimes etc.

Academically, Jonathan is recognised by The Global Undergraduate Awards as among global top 10% and as one of the top 5 entrants in Hong Kong for his research project on legal bilingualism in Hong Kong he undertook during his time at HKU. He is also the recipient of the Eric Au Shing Wai Prize for ranking first in class in Use of Chinese in Law.

Joseph C.C. Yeung

Prior to joining the Bar, Joseph was a Detective Superintendent with the Hong Kong Police Force and has solid experience in all aspects of criminal procedures.

During his over 30 years tenure at the Force, he was responsible for directing investigation and prosecution of cases involving, inter alia, organized crimes, commercial fraud, white collar crimes, money laundering, corruption, serious drugs offences, immigration offences, violent crimes, triads, fatal traffic and industrial incidents and other crimes. He was also experienced in fire investigations and death inquests. He has served as Adjudicating Officer in Disciplinary Proceedings.

On the civil side, Joseph has experience in cases involving areas such as general commercial, insolvency and winding up, land, torts and construction.

Joseph welcomes all instructions and is developing a broad practice of civil and criminal matters.

Chester Fung

Chester joined Chambers in 2022 after completing his pupillage with Mr. Ambrose Ho SC, Mr. Norman Nip SC, Mr. Tony Li SC, and Mr. Alan Ng. Prior to commencement of pupillage, Chester completed the Master of Laws with a focus on company and insolvency law at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Chester is developing a broad civil and criminal practice. He accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work with focuses on trusts, probate, company disputes, insolvency, land and matrimonial matters. He has been instructed by listed company and high net-worth private clients to advise and act on a range of disputes and various substantive applications including urgent injunctions and resisting security for costs application.

On the criminal side, Chester has experiences ranging from white-collar crime to departmental summonses as well as violent crime, sexual offences, traffic offences, regulatory offences and drugs offences both in trials and appeals. Chester has conducted criminal trial as sole advocate and acted in Magistracy Appeal before the Court of First Instance.

He is also a part-time lecturer in law at the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education.

Warren Suen    孫瑋琳大律師

Warren is a dual-qualified barrister and registered architect. His practice covers most areas of civil work and criminal proceedings, specialising in construction law, commercial disputes, land and building matters and international arbitration.

After graduating from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) focusing on arbitration, conflict of laws, and international treaties, Warren served pupillage with Ms Amanda Li, Mr Calvin Cheuk, Mr Simon Wong, Mr Benny Lo, Mr Jeffrey Tam and Mr Solomon Lam. During his pupillage, he was awarded the Society of Construction Law Hong Kong Scholarship.

As either the sole advocate or a led junior, Warren has appeared in various levels of courts and tribunals. He has advised on a wide range of legal matters, including construction claims, civil and commercial disputes, land and building management matters, shareholder disputes, professional negligence, personal injuries, criminal matters (including industrial summons), international arbitration, disciplinary proceedings, etc. Additionally, Warren welcomes instructions in relation to judicial review and competition law.

Warren’s broad knowledge and experience in the construction sector enable him to navigate complex technical subject matters, regional practices, and handling of expert witnesses. Prior to joining the Bar, Warren completed a Master of Architecture at the University of Manchester on a scholarship. He subsequently became a Registered Architect in Hong Kong and is also a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Moreover, he worked in various international architecture firms, where he played integral roles in designing and administering large-scale building projects in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and the Middle East.

Currently, Warren holds various public service roles, including appointments at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the Development Bureau and the Occupational Safety & Health Council. While serving in the Construction Industry Council, Warren sat on the panel of a number of regulatory action hearings regarding contractor misconducts.

Furthermore, Warren has been an advocate of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) since studying at the LSE, during which he represented the school in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and received the Pieter Sanders Award. Early in his legal practice, Warren served as a director of the Joint Mediation Helpline Office (JMHO). At present, he is a representative to the Working Group on Adjudication under the Construction Industry Security of Payment Ordinance (SOPL) and also a member of the Joint Dispute Resolution Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, responsible for appointing mediators and arbitrators.

Warren is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, with work proficiency in Taishanese.

Toni Y.T. Chan

Teresa L.M. Leung

Teresa was admitted to the Bar in 2018. She leads a general practice. She has appeared either as a sole advocate or a led junior counsel in the Court of Final Appeal, Court of Appeal, High Court, District Court and the Magistrates’ Courts.

Teresa’s criminal practice ranges from legal visits, plea bargains, bail applications and mitigations to trials and appeals. She has represented clients in cases of, inter alia, criminal damage, drug offences, road traffic offences, offences of dishonesty (including conspiracy to defraud), sexual offences and manslaughter.

For civil matters, Teresa’s breadth of experience covers land, contract, company, coroner’s court hearings, insolvency, bankruptcy, tort, labour, trust and probate. She has worked on interlocutory applications involving, inter alia, summary judgment, default judgment, striking-out, injunctions and jurisdictional disputes. She regularly renders advice on personal injury cases and has also been instructed to provide expert opinion on regulatory compliance of companies in Hong Kong.

Teresa is on the Legal Aid Panel and regularly provides pro bono advice under the Free Legal Advice Scheme of the Duty Lawyer Service.

Teresa has been an annual contributing editor of Hong Kong Civil Procedure (Hong Kong White Book) since the 2022 edition and was the online Employment Practical Guidance platform of LexisNexis in 2021.

Paul Y.P. Lee

Paul has a practice focussed on construction, commercial and land law. Gilbert H.W. Chong

He is experienced in advising and representing clients in a variety of civil areas, including complex company and commercial disputes, interlocutory applications, constitutional law, property, personal injury, banking and finance and probate.

He also regularly receives instructions as a defence counsel for criminal matters, and has represented clients in bail applications, mitigations, trials and appeals. He has also represented numerous clients, including businesses, facing charges prosecuted by the Labour Department, Buildings Department, ICAC, Customs and Excise, and Immigration Department.

Holden often appears as an advocate in the High Court, District Court and Magistracies, and has also appeared before the Air Transport Licensing Authority.

He read law at Cornell University in New York, as well as in Hong Kong at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong.

Mary started her career in London. She was called as a barrister in 1983 and undertook pupillage at the chambers of GRA Darling QC (now 36 Stone) in Middle Temple. Mary moved to Hong Kong in 1992 continuing practice as a solicitor for over 20 years, for the most part as a dispute resolution partner in Hong Kong and international law firms. Lawrence Y.Y. Ng

Lawrence has accumulated extensive experience in all aspects of criminal law, corporate investigations and market misconduct prosecutions during his practice at the Bar and decades of earlier service with the Hong Kong Police Force.

In attaining his LLM (HKU), he focused on key areas of interest including corporate law, human rights, international law and the PRC criminal code.

He brings an understanding of a full range of criminal offences to the cases he undertakes. He is frequently instructed to represent clients in disciplinary hearings brought by law enforcement agencies.

He also acts for clients in relation to investigation initiated by the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council, Equal Opportunity Commission, Physiotherapists Board and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

Lawrence is particularly familiar with large-scale commercial crime and money laundering investigations. And, he regularly advises local listed companies and foreign entities on their internal investigations into corporate misconduct.

Justin S.C. Cheung

Justin trained to be a solicitor in the Hong Kong office of an international law firm. Since qualification as a solicitor, Justin has worked in the litigation department of several international firms.

As a litigation solicitor, Justin was responsible for mostly commercial cases conducted at the High Court in Hong Kong as well as the District Court of Hong Kong. He oversaw all aspects of a case from the initial preparation for bringing a claim to the actual trial, communicating with the court, clients, witnesses, experts, barristers and the opposing legal team.

Legal Practice

Micky joined Pacific Chambers in 2011 and has developed his practice in both civil and criminal litigation and alternative dispute resolution. 

His area of expertise in civil practice includes maritime, shipping and aviation disputes, commercial contract disputes, company disputes, personal injury disputes, money lending disputes, personal data privacy, probate practice, defamation, legal aid appeals, land and adverse possession disputes and cases involving the Building Management Ordinance.

In relation to his criminal practice, he has defended in trial hearings, made pleas of mitigation, bail applications and stay applications.  He is presently serving as a Counsel-on-fiat and has extensive experience prosecuting in Magistracies. 

He also has the experience of conducting death inquests at the Coroner’s Court, including examining medical/expert witnesses and interested persons and answering coroner’s queries. 

He also had extensive opportunities working with his pupil masters in admiralty related litigation, including ship arrests and collision, company related cases such as share capital reduction, commercial crime and SFC related cases.

 

Alternative Dispute Resolution

Micky has attended various seminars and training in Mediation and Arbitration offered by the Hong Kong Academy of Law, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators.  It is also his intention to expand his practice in the field of Mediation and Arbitration. 

As a HKMAAL accredited general mediator, he has ample experience in conducting mediation as both a mediator and legal advisor.  He has mediated numerous cases involving a variety of areas of law, including:
